"Everything is an experiment" - Issey miyake
Experimenting is an essential part of my praxis. No one pedagogy will work for every students. In order to reach as many kinds of students as possible and reach others in new ways, I often experiment with new pedagogies. Experimenting motivates me to keep up to date with literature on high impact practices and allows me to take calculated risks on what I've learned about teaching.
When I am trying out a new technique, I often tell my students that's what I'm doing and activley solicit feedback. It places them in the role of experts, and I modify my practices based on their feedback. Experimenting this way allows me to model what taking calculated risks and gracefully recieving feedback looks like. And my hope is that. they are encouraged to do the same with their assignments in my class.
